I'm Here

Okay, I'm here. The plane rides were alright, I sat next to an incredibly antsy guy from Saudi Arabia, who would try to talk to me at the most inopportune times (i.e. when I was sleeping) in incredibly broken english. Now I have no problem when people can't speak english very well, I mean I bet half the time here people can't understand what I'm saying...speaking a foreign language is hard sometimes...but honestly he could have like waited until I was maybe awake and looking at him to nudge me and ask me some silly little smalltalk question. I guess it didn't help that he brought absolutely no carryon with him. No magazines, books, headphones, nothing.

Anyway, I arrived in Germany without much problem. The first day I was picked up at the airport all sweaty and gross by Nancy Krauss, a leader for the program I'm in. We got me a Bahnkarte 50, which lets me get all train tickets for 50% off. Totally sweet. Then set up a bank account, I signed my life away on some extremely legalese form all in German, and then I went to my apartment and signed my lease.

I met Ivan, the other student in the VDAC, and we went with Nancy to meet Frau Sierp and a guy named Dietmar for lunch. Dietmar is a nice guy, got me set up with a phone right away, but he's kinda squirrely and intense.

Dylan showed up the next night, after I had a bit of a rough morning due to jet-lag and scaryness and not having the internets. Before I met him I went with Ivan to Oktoberfest and met some of his language course friends.

Dylan and I went to Oktoberfest together twice, and I got to meet with Lisa, a friend of Jule's. She's great, and I think it will be nice to meet some more people here in the upcoming days.
